VERSATILITY AND PRECISION IN ONE: THREE WELDING METHODS

  • SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding): The ideal solution for welding carbon steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals. The pulsed current feature ensures precise and efficient welding, even under challenging conditions.
  • GTAW DC (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding): A precise welding method using an electric arc in an inert gas atmosphere, perfect for tasks demanding the highest level of accuracy. The ability to use pulsed current offers even greater control over the process.
  • GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding): With a CC/CV type device, it supports semi-automatic welding with solid wire (MIG/MAG) or self-shielded wire (FCAW-S, FCAW-G) when an external wire feeder is connected. As a result, the equipment can be transformed into a lightweight, portable modular machine, maintaining efficiency across a wide range of materials.

CRAFTED FOR ALL YOUR WELDING NEEDS

The PATON™ PRO-160 Welding Inverter is a versatile tool that excels across a wide range of industries—from repair and maintenance tasks to industrial production and smaller workshop projects. With a duty cycle of 70% at 160A and 100% at 140A, the PATON™ PRO-160 delivers efficient performance even under demanding conditions. This equipment is a practical choice for professionals seeking a compact yet powerful machine for precise welding in both industrial and workshop environments.

With every weld, with every droplet of molten metal, this compact yet robust inverter transforms raw steel into solid, durable structures—perfect for joining and repairing steel frameworks in buildings and industrial infrastructure. Its precision also makes it indispensable in repair workshops, where welding small components demands exceptional accuracy.

The welder has been designed with a focus on maximum versatility and user comfort, enabling precise welding with electrodes of different coating types. The standard slope of the current-voltage characteristic (CVC) is set to 1.4 V/A, which perfectly suits popular rutile and rutile-cellulosic electrodes such as the PATON™ 6013 ELITE, widely used in general construction, repair, and thin steel sheet welding.

To ensure optimal conditions when working with basic-coated electrodes (such as PATON™ 7018 ELITE, PATON™ 7015 ELITE), we recommend adjusting the CVC slope to 1.0 V/A, which improves arc stability and weld quality. These electrodes are ideal for welding thick steel structures, bridges, and structural elements, where high joint strength is required.

On the other hand, for cellulose-coated electrodes, the optimal CVC slope is 0.2–0.6 V/A. Cellulosic electrodes E6010 and E6011 are highly effective in harsh field conditions, where weld reliability and strength are crucial. The E6010, characterised by its deep penetration and good arc stability, is ideal for welding pipes and structures in the oil and gas industry, particularly in any position, including vertical down welding. To enhance arc stability, it is recommended to increase the “Arc-Force” function to 18V, which improves weld control and quality.

ADJUSTABLE HOT START FUNCTION PARAMETERS

Our technology ensures maximum efficiency in welding arc ignition, guaranteeing ideal arc ignition even with electrodes that are difficult to start. This results in deeper and more uniform penetration of the base material from the ignition phase, minimising the risk of damaging the workpiece. Moreover, this function effectively prevents slag inclusions during the welding process, resulting in a clean and durable weld.

ADJUSTABLE ARC FORCE FUNCTION PARAMETERS

The adjustable parameters of the Arc Force function are a crucial element that allows precise tuning of welding characteristics to meet the specific requirements of the material and the task. With this function, users can manually adjust the arc force, offering a dual advantage:

  • Delicate Operations on Thin Materials: The ability to reduce the Arc Force setting to the lowest level is ideal for working with thin metals. This not only saves energy and optimises heat distribution but also minimises the risk of burning through the material. However, it’s important to note that at this setting, arc stability may be somewhat reduced, resembling the operation of traditional transformer power sources.
  • Increased Arc Stability: For tasks requiring exceptional arc stability, the Arc Force function can be increased to the highest level. This setting ensures excellent stability of the short arc, which is essential for achieving high-quality welds. However, it is important to bear in mind that this requires a robust power supply and may slightly increase the risk of burning through the material.

PRECISE AND SOLID WELDS

PATON International’s pulsed welding technology, which includes both GTAW LIFT and SMAW PULSE methods, ensures exceptional weld durability and strength.

TIG LIFT PULSE allows for precise welding with controlled arc ignition through the touch of the tungsten electrode on the material, followed by lifting (LIFT). When the device detects this movement, it interprets it as a signal to initiate the welding process, linearly increasing the welding current to the set value. The pulsed function in this method involves regulating the welding current in pulses, allowing precise control over heat input, thus preventing material overheating. This results in high-quality welds, particularly when welding thin materials or in challenging welding positions.

SMAW PULSE and Short Arc: Stable Arc and Improved Control

SMAW PULSE is a shielded metal arc welding method that utilises current pulsing. The base current stabilises the welding arc and allows the melting of the wire and material edges, while the pulsed current is responsible for the spatter-free transfer of molten metal into the weld pool, minimising the risk of short circuits.

OPTIMAL PERFORMANCE WITH EXTENDED CABLES AND POWER GENERATOR

The PATON™ PRO-160 Multiprocess Welding Inverter is equipped with a voltage drop protection system, allowing it to operate optimally at a nominal current of 160A, even in challenging conditions. The equipment maintains its efficiency when powered by long extension cables—up to 155 m with a 4 mm² cross-section or up to 95 m with a 2.5 mm² cross-section—as well as when used with power generators.

Thanks to the voltage stabilisation system, fluctuations are effectively eliminated, ensuring stable device regulation, enhancing safety, and prolonging its lifespan. The welding inverter’s operating voltage range varies from 160V to 260V, making it versatile and reliable under different power supply conditions.

The PATON™ PRO-160 Welding Inverter can be powered by various types of generators, provided they meet the appropriate technical parameters. It is recommended to use generators equipped with automatic voltage regulation (AVR) or equivalent, with a rated power compatible with the requirements specified in the instruction manual. It is crucial that the generator’s output voltage falls within the range of 160V to 260V, ensuring smooth and safe operation of the equipment.

For welding with Ø4 mm coated electrodes and TIG welding with tungsten electrodes up to Ø2.4 mm at a nominal current of up to 160A, as well as for welding with solid wire using the MIG/MAG method with Ø1.0 mm wire, a minimum generator power of 6.0 kVA is recommended.

On the other hand, for welding with solid wire of Ø0.8 mm and coated electrodes of Ø3 mm at currents up to 120A, a generator power of 4.5 kVA will be sufficient.

INTEGRATED WELDING PARAMETER MEMORY: FASTER SETUP AND GREATER EFFICIENCY

Our welding unit allows up to 16 programmes to be saved in each of the SMAW, GTAW, and GMAW modes. Upon startup, the device automatically runs programme number 1, and any changes to settings are saved immediately. With the simple switch of programmes using a single button, you can quickly return to your preferred settings, minimising downtime. The device memory enables the storage of parameters for different tasks, reducing setup time and optimising the welding process.
