DESIGNED WITH YOU IN MIND
The PATON™ PRO-250 is a tool that simplifies, enhances precision, and increases comfort for each welding task. With features such as adjustable Hot-Start, Arc-Force, and automatic Anti-Stick, it greatly facilitates initiating the welding arc, providing better control over arc stability and significantly reducing the risk of electrode sticking across various electrode types. These features collectively make the welding process smoother and more efficient, even in challenging conditions.
This compact unit is an ideal choice for professionals who require reliable equipment for precise welding in a variety of industrial and workshop environments. A key factor in the efficient operation of the PATON™ PRO-250 at its full 250A current is ensuring a nominal input range of 29.5 to 35 A, which guarantees stable and effective performance. The PATON™ PRO-250 is equipment you can depend on, regardless of the challenges faced by the user.
The welder is designed with versatility and user convenience in mind, allowing precise welding with electrodes featuring different coatings. The default slope of the current-voltage characteristic (CVS) is set to 1.4 V/A, harmonizing well with commonly used rutile and rutile-cellulosic electrodes, like the PATON™ 6013 ELITE, which are popular for general construction, repair work, and thin steel sheet welding.
For optimal conditions when working with electrodes with a basic coating (e.g., PATON™ 7018 ELITE, PATON™ 7015 ELITE), adjusting the CVS slope to 1.0 V/A is recommended, enhancing arc stability and improving weld quality. These electrodes are ideal for welding thick steel structures, bridges, and load-bearing components where high joint strength is critical. However, for cellulose-coated electrodes, an optimal CVS slope of 0.2–0.6 V/A is recommended. Cellulose electrodes like the E6010 and E6011 excel in rugged field conditions where weld reliability and durability are essential. The E6010 electrode, known for deep penetration and stable arc, is particularly recommended for pipe welding and structures in the oil and gas industry, especially in vertical positions, including downhill welding. To further enhance arc stability, increasing the Arc-Force function to 18V is recommended, providing superior control and weld quality.
ADJUSTABLE PARAMETERS OF THE “HOT START” FUNCTION
The “Hot Start” function allows precise adjustment of initial ignition parameters in the welding process. Users can regulate two key parameters:
This parameter determines the intensity with which the “Hot Start” function influences electrode ignition. Setting the value to a minimum significantly reduces energy consumption during the initial phase, allowing the operation to begin with voltage close to the minimum range.
Increasing the “Hot Start” power value maximizes ignition intensity, which is advantageous under stable network conditions. However, it’s essential to note that setting it too high may result in burn-through when welding thin metals.
HOT START TIME [T.HS]:
This parameter controls the duration of the “Hot Start” function. Adjusting this setting allows for precise timing of the intense ignition phase based on the thickness of the welded material and process requirements. Setting the “Hot Start” time too long may necessitate a robust power supply, as insufficient supply could lead to ignition issues.
ADJUSTABLE ARC FORCE PARAMETERS
The adjustable Arc Force parameters are a critical feature, enabling precise tuning of welding characteristics to meet the specific requirements of the material and task. This function allows users to manually adjust the arc force, offering dual benefits:
Gentle Operations on Thin Materials: Reducing the Arc Force setting to the lowest level is ideal for working with thin metals. This not only conserves energy and optimizes heat distribution but also minimizes the risk of burn-through. However, it’s worth noting that at this setting, arc stability may be slightly reduced, resembling the behavior of traditional transformer-based power sources.
Enhanced Arc Stability: For tasks demanding exceptional arc stability, the Arc Force function can be set to the highest level. This setting provides excellent short arc stability, which is essential for achieving high-quality welds. It’s important to remember, though, that this requires a robust power supply and may slightly increase the risk of material burn-through.
DURABLE WELDS, CRAFTED WITH PRECISION
The pulse welding technology by PATON International, which includes both the GTAW LIFT and SMAW PULSE methods, ensures exceptional durability and strength of the weld.
TIG LIFT PULSE
This technique enables precise welding with controlled arc ignition by touching the tungsten electrode to the material and then lifting it (LIFT). When the device detects this movement, it interprets it as a signal to initiate the welding process, resulting in a linear increase in welding current up to the preset value. The pulsing function in this method regulates the welding current in pulses, allowing for precise heat input control and preventing material overheating. This approach allows for high-quality welds, particularly when welding thin materials or in challenging welding positions.
SMAW PULSE AND SHORT ARC: STABLE ARC AND IMPROVED CONTROL
In the context of welding with the SMAW PULSE method, minimizing the risk of short circuits is one of the key advantages of the pulsating welding current. During pulse welding, two current levels are employed: the base current (lower) and the pulse current (higher). The base current is maintained for most of the duration, serving to stabilize the arc, while the pulse current is applied in short bursts, facilitating the transfer of molten metal droplets from the electrode to the weld pool. This process enables the pulse current to precisely control the transfer of metal droplets, reducing the risk of the electrode approaching the weld pool too closely and causing a short circuit. The pulse raises the energy sufficiently to detach the droplet from the electrode before a short circuit can occur. The SMAW method with pulse functionality is most commonly used in applications where minimizing spatter and improving weld quality are critical, particularly in challenging welding positions, such as vertical-up (PF) welding and other forced positions.
VOLTAGE STABILIZATION FOR LONG EXTENSION CORDS AND GENERATOR POWER SUPPLY
The PATON™ PRO 250 inverter welder is equipped with a voltage drop protection system, allowing optimal performance at a nominal current of 250A, even under demanding conditions. The device maintains its efficiency when powered through long extension cords, such as up to 150 meters with a 6 mm² cross-section or up to 60 meters with a 2.5 mm² cross-section, as well as during operation with power generators.
The PATON™ PRO 250 inverter welder can be powered by various types of generators, provided they meet specific technical requirements. It is recommended to use generators equipped with automatic voltage regulation (AVR) or an equivalent system, with a rated power consistent with the specifications in the user manual. It is crucial for the generator’s output voltage to remain within the range of 160V to 260V to ensure smooth and safe operation of the device. For welding with Ø6 mm coated electrodes and using the TIG method with tungsten electrodes up to Ø3.2 mm at a nominal current up to 250A, as well as for MIG/MAG welding with solid wire up to Ø1.2 mm, a minimum generator power of 10.0 kVA is recommended. For welding with Ø1.0 mm solid wire and Ø5 mm coated electrodes at a current up to 200A, a generator power of 7.7 kVA is sufficient.
INTEGRATED MEMORY FOR WELDING PARAMETERS: FASTER SETUP AND INCREASED EFFICIENCY
Our welding unit allows for saving up to 16 programs in each of the SMAW, GTAW, and GMAW modes. Upon startup, it automatically activates program number 1, and any adjustments to settings are saved immediately. With simple one-button program switching, you can quickly return to preferred settings, minimizing downtime. The device memory enables saving parameters for various tasks, reducing setup time and optimizing the welding process.
WIRED REMOTE CONTROL
Remote control in MMA (Manual Metal Arc) welding refers to the capability of adjusting welding parameters from a distance during the welding process. This type of system is valuable in various welding situations, especially when welding operations are conducted in hard-to-reach or hazardous locations. Remote control technology allows operators to adjust welding parameters, such as current intensity, without needing to approach the welding machine. Option available upon request.
FAN STOP DYNAMICS AND ERGONOMIC BODY ENGINEERING
