MIG Welding Machine PATON™ ProMIG–500–15–4 – basic information
The digital inverter-based MIG Welding Machine PATON™ ProMIG-500-15-4 delivers a broad range of technological capabilities and energy efficiency for professional applications. It supports SMAW (covered electrode), GMAW (MIG/MAG), FCAW (with or without shielding gas) and GTAW LIFT (TIG). With an adjustable welding current of 16–500 A, one can fine-tune the settings for different materials and thicknesses, whether in a workshop or on-site. This model accommodates covered electrodes (1.6–8.0 mm), welding wires (0.6–1.6 mm) and tungsten electrodes (1.0–5.0 mm), ideally suited for steel construction in heavy industry, shipbuilding, and metal fabrication.
A robust four-roller wire feeding mechanism with full drive, compatible with 5, 15, or 18 kg spools, guarantees stable, accurate feeding – even when working with soft aluminium, making it well-suited for welding that material. Fitted with wheels for ease of transport and able to connect to a communication cable up to 30 metres, the system affords greater flexibility in large industrial halls or construction sites. Quick polarity switching (DCEP/DCEN) streamlines adaptation to different welding methods. The EURO connector allows for swift torch replacement, while the modular design enhances operator comfort and safety.
Additionally, the machine is designed for operation with generators and long extension leads, retaining full performance under various field conditions. Advanced digital controls permit precise adjustment of welding voltage, shielding gas flow time, and wire feed speed, ensuring the unit meets high standards in the food and chemical industries.
The design of the ProMIG 500 15-4 model (15kg spool – 4 roller feeder) provides some of the best protection against external influences on the market. This model’s rated current of 500A at a duty cycle of 70% is a result that allows intensive welding of materials without the risk of overheating the machine. The source can be separated from the welding wire feed mechanism for convenience and safety. A distinctive feature of the PATON™ Professional Series semi-automatic machines is the high-quality, sealed, metallic wire feeder, as well as the existing KZ-2 ‘EURO’ type connector, which has become a standard worldwide, allowing the user to change the handle at will in the future. In a fully electronic system, the control system has absolutely all the resources of the source, within the limits of its full capacity and whatever method is used. The “Professional” series is designed for industrial use, for the most demanding users.
Functions and features of MIG Welding Machine PATON™ ProMIG–500–15–4
GASLESS WELDING FUNCTION – WELDING WITH SELF-CONSUMING WIRE
All PATON MIG/MAG welders are adapted for welding with self-consuming wire. Such welding, as opposed to the traditional MIG/MAG welding process, takes place without shielding gas – however, this requires a special welding wire. Such wire produces its own shielding, which helps to protect the welding arc. Self-shielded wire suitable for PATON welders can be purchased here – spools of 5 kg wire will fit all wire feeders.
SOLDERING – INDUCTANCE ADJUSTMENT
PATON™ MIG/MAG welders of the Standard and PRO series have the possibility of brazing, thanks to the function of changing the inductance in three stages. The inductance control allows the arc characteristics to be optimised according to the thickness of the component to be welded. This function is necessary to change the speed of the current flow when changing the arc voltage. The thinner the workpiece to be welded using MIG/MAG, the higher the inductance should be (soft arc – less fusion), for thick workpieces the opposite (hard arc – more fusion).
PULSE FUNCTION IN ALL METHODS
– PULSE in TIG welding – full control of heat input into the material – a great feature for welding stainless steel and acid-resistant steel,
– PULSE in MMA – easier transfer of material from electrode to weld pool, better quality of welded joint,
