MIG Welding Machine PATON™ ProMIG–160–15–2 – Welding Kit #1
The digital inverter-based MIG Welding Machine PATON™ ProMIG-160-15-2 combines versatility and high energy efficiency for professional applications. It supports SMAW (stick electrode), GMAW (MIG/MAG), FCAW (with or without shielding gas) and GTAW LIFT (TIG). With an adjustable welding current range of 8 to 160 A, the machine allows precise parameter configuration for various tasks—both in the workshop and on construction sites. The ProMIG-160-15-2 model accommodates stick electrodes from 1.6 to 4.0 mm, welding wires from 0.6 to 1.0 mm, and tungsten electrodes from 1.0 to 2.4 mm.
Its robust two-roller wire feed system is compatible with spools weighing 5, 15, or 18 kg. Easy polarity switching (DCEP/DCEN) makes it flexible for different welding techniques. Thanks to the standard EURO connector, torch replacement is quick and convenient, enhancing the machine’s functionality. The detachable wire feeder also improves mobility and ergonomics.
In MMA and TIG modes, welding can be performed using only the power source, without the need to carry the entire wire feeder assembly. The unit is additionally designed to operate with generators and long extension cables, ensuring full performance under various field conditions. Advanced digital controls allow for precise adjustment of welding voltage, shielding gas flow time, and wire feed speed, adapting the machine to different materials and work requirements.
The design of the ProMIG 160 15-2 model (15 kilogram spool, also capable of handling a 5 kilogram spool – 2 roll feeder) provides some of the best protection against external influences on the market. This model’s rated current of 160A at a duty cycle of 70% is a result that allows intensive welding of 6 mm materials without the risk of overheating. The power source can be separated from the welding wire feed mechanism for ease of use and safety. A characteristic feature of PATON™ Professional Series semi-automatic machines is the high-quality sealed metallic wire feeder, as well as the existing KZ-2 “EURO” type connector, which has become a standard worldwide, allowing the user to change the handle at will in the future. In a completely electronic system, the control system has absolutely all the resources of the source, within the limits of its full power and regardless of what method is used. The device of “Professional” series is designed for industrial use, for the most demanding users.
Functions and capabilities of the versatile PATON™ ProMIG-160 welding machine
GASLESS WELDING FUNCTION – WELDING WITH SELF-SHEATHED WIRE
All PATON™ MIG/MAG welding machines are compatible with self-shielded flux-cored wire. Unlike the traditional MIG/MAG welding process, this method does not require an external shielding gas. Instead, the special wire generates its own shielding to protect the welding arc.
SOLDERING – INDUCTANCE ADJUSTMENT
PATON™ MIG/MAG welders of the Standard and PRO series have the possibility of brazing thanks to the function of changing the inductance in three stages. The inductance control enables to optimize the characteristics of the arc depending on the thickness of the component to be welded. This function is necessary to change the speed of the current flow when changing the arc voltage. The thinner the element to be welded with MIG/MAG, the higher the inductance should be (soft arc – less fusion), for thicker elements the opposite (hard arc – more fusion).
PULSE FUNCTION IN ALL METHODS
– PULSE in TIG welding – full control of heat entering the material – a great feature for welding stainless steel and acid-resistant steel,
– Pulses in MMA – easier transfer of material from electrode to weld pool, better quality of welded joint,
THE MAIN DIFFERENCES BETWEEN MIG/MAG WELDING MACHINES OF STANDARD AND PRO SERIES:
- duty cycle – PRO series MIG/MAG welders have a 70% duty cycle, while the Standard series has a 45% cycle at the same welding current. In addition, the PRO series welders achieve a continuous duty cycle at a higher welding current than the Standard series welders.
- Wire Feeder – The PRO Series has a separate wire feeder that handles spools from 15 to 18 kilos. The feeder can be separated from the source for convenience in welding other methods – such as MMA or TIG DC. The PRO Series also has 2 roll or 4 roll wire feeder versions. In the MIG/MAG Standard Series, the wire feeder is built into the welder, only handles spools up to 5 kilos and always has two rolls.
